Tim Birkmeier Retiring From Rocket, Mortgage Industry

Tim Birkmeier, Rocket Mortgage president, is retiring from the company and the industry altogether.

After nearly three decades with Rocket, Birkmeier announced his leaving in a LinkedIn post.

“As I move on to the next chapter in my life, I hope to have proven to those at RKT what can be accomplished when you are willing to sacrifice for the greater good, consciously make professional improvements, and be consistent in your actions to get great results,” he wrote.

Birkmeier thanked Dan Gilbert, Bill Emerson, and Jay Farner, saying they allowed him to have a strong leadership voice in the company.

“I will always have a deep respect for our unique and good company culture that has been formed through the years. Our culture is what makes RKT a special place and allows us to accomplish big things!” Birkmeier wrote.

Birkmeier was named president at the beginning of 2022 while retaining his role of chief revenue officer (later succeeded by current CRO Austin Niemiec.) He joined Rocket in 1996 as a mortgage banker and ascended to a slew of leadership positions before becoming CRO in 2017.

“Though our time together was short, the impact you made in your decades here and on me personally is immense,” Rocket Companies CEO Varun Krishna wrote in a comment under the post. Krishna was named CEO just last year.

Birkmeier plans to spend time with friends and family when he leaves his position at the end of this month.

Rocket has seen a host of leadership changes in the last two years, the most prominent being the retirement of former Rocket Mortgage CEO Jay Farner last summer. He also left the company to focus on his family.
