Rocket Takes Second In “100 Companies That Care” Rankings

Rocket Companies has been recognized by PEOPLE in its 100 Companies That Care rankings for its contributions to Detroit homeowners.

For the past seven years, PEOPLE has partnered with Great Place To Work to honor companies that go above and beyond to positively impact their communities.

This year, Rocket Companies earned second place for its efforts to support residents of Detroit.

PEOPLE said its decision was based on the Detroit Home Repair Fund, part of the Gilbert Family Foundation. The fund facilitates critical home repairs for low-income Detroit homeowners – where Rocket is headquartered – through its nonprofit partners.

Nonprofit partners inspect the home and obtain the funding, as well as oversee contractors and post-inspections while monitoring compliance.

“Stable housing is about more than a place to live,” Jennifer Gilbert told People. “It is about ensuring residents and their families feel safe and secure in their home.”

The foundation committed $10 million to the $20 million program. ProMedica and DTE Energy provided additional financial support.

The program is expected to provide life-changing support to more than 1,000 homeowners. A University of Michigan Poverty Solutions report found that in 2020 approximately 8,500 owner-occupied homes in Detroit were “inadequate or severely inadequate.”

“Incredibly proud of our team for being honored as #2 on People’s 100 Companies That Care ranking. ‘Doing well by doing good’ is something our Founder Dan Gilbert has emphasized for decades. And our team at #RKT embodies that… and lives that. We recently celebrated surpassing 1,000,000 volunteer hours invested in our communities,” Rocket Chief Revenue Officer Austin Niemiec posted on LinkedIn.

Leaders at Rocket announced in June that their team members had reached one million volunteer hours, participating in more than 150,000 volunteer events with more than 4,800 organizations nationwide.

PEOPLE’s number one ranking went to Cisco, which won out with its ambitious company goal of positively impacting one billion people by 2025.
